“From France to Paraguay: How I Left It All Behind to Live Freely.” I’m not going to lie to you: I wasn’t born an adventurer.

I was just like you. A French guy who worked hard, paid his taxes, and tried to build a life for himself. And then one day, I asked myself the question that thousands of French speakers ask themselves in silence:

“Is this really the life I want?” The answer was no. So I left.

​

THE TURNING POINT: WHY DID I LEAVE FRANCE?
 
That feeling had been building for years. Not just a passing case of being fed up, but something deeper. The feeling of being “ripped off.”  I worked, I created value, I took risks… and at the end of the month, what was left for me? The feeling that I was working harder for the government than for myself.

Then there was the bureaucracy. That constant burden. 15 forms to fill out for a single procedure, a 3-month wait for a simple task, and the fear that they’ll ask for a 16th document.  A system that no longer serves the citizen—but the opposite.

And then there was Covid. 

​

The lockdowns, the restrictions, the feeling that someone was dictating how I should live my life down to the smallest detail. For me, that was the turning point.  The moment I said to myself: “It’s now.” As soon as I can, I’m leaving. 

​

My real epiphany? I realized that moving within Europe wouldn’t change a thing.
A future with the same laws, the same taxes, the same system? 

​

To regain my freedom, I had to look further afield.

 

THE SEARCH: FINDING THE RIGHT COUNTRY

 

Latin America naturally drew me in. The warmth of the people, the pace of life, a culture where people truly live—not just survive. I started by exploring Central America: Panama, Costa Rica…

 

Beautiful countries—I wouldn’t turn my nose up at them. But it still wasn’t “the” country I was looking for.

Not the one where I saw myself settling down for good, starting a family, building my future.

 

I also looked at the Caribbean, other destinations…

 

Every place had its merits, but none of them checked all the boxes.

 

And then I discovered Paraguay.
